I think Social networking and digital communities are a great idea. Through networking you are constantly learning things about the world, whether through talking to people in other countries or reading stories and watching videos that have been shared around the world.
I myself are part of a number of online digital communities including Facebook.
Social Networking sites such as Facebook are great for keeping in touch and sustaining relationships with those you usually wouldn't. While some people post constant status updates and like to keep everyone up to date with their lives, I prefer to use the site as a way to keep in contact with people and also for group discussions and organizing, which Facebook is quick and ideal for.
I'm not the biggest online gamer around but I do enjoy gaming and I am part of the Steam online community where I can talk to friends and we can play online together.
YouTube is a regular for video viewing and I am a regular browser. And as Michael talked about in class YouTube is a great way to show videos and create a fan base and following, especially in the gaming community. A gamer that I particularly enjoy is Dunkey or 'videogamedunkey'. With currently 385 uploaded videos of mainly computer games, Dunkey has a massive following with almost half a million subscribers and over 121 million video views.

The ability to share videos is a massive deal in terms of what people can teach you over the internet. Through the digital community, 'Digital Tutors' I have learnt a lot that there is no way I would have otherwise, Digital Tutors provides in depth video tutorials in the field of animation, CGI and special effects (FX). Although It is a video database which you have to pay to subscribe to, tutorials are given by professionals currently in the industry and so far it has been worth every cent, I honestly cant wait to learn more. The site provides forums for discussion and questions, what more could I want.

Throughout the blog I will link videos that are relevant to to what im trying to do as well as my own and I guess we'll just see how it goes.
